Counselling the aftermath of Coronavirus

The physical health effects of Coronavirus are known and documented. The mental health effects are there and will start to show themselves more clearly as we head into the second half of the year and on into 2021.

Like the virus itself, some people's mental health will have been mildly affected and a little bit of professional support will get their head space back into a good place. Others will have been badly affected, perhaps event traumatised by their personal experience of COVID-19. Examples of how people have been affected include:

- Bereavement of a friend or family member
- Being a staff member on the front line
- Anxiety as a consequence of self-isolation
- Anxiety or depression as a consequence of shielding
- Staying at home with within a dysfunctional relationship / family
- Redundancy
- General lack of confidence and / or optimism about the future

In all of these, and other circumstances, a trained counsellor will be able to help you. Don't worry whether the appointment you secure is face-to-face or over the telephone or via Zoom. Each of these counselling options is very effective. I have had specific training in telephone counselling and have seen seen its effectiveness at close hand

The real strength is in reaching out for help. Once you've done that, the process of healing can begin. I work with clients who live in London (I counsel in Covent Garden and London Bridge in particular), but with so much virtual counselling place now, location is no longer a barrier.
